Tired of Debating the Limitations of eGFR? Do Your Patients a Favor and Measure GFR!

November 03, 2022 | 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Location: W304, Orange County Convention Center‚ West Building

Session Description

The adage that "GFR measurement is a cumbersome procedure" no longer holds. The technique for GFR measurement has moved beyond inulin infusion and radioisotope scans. Non-radiolabeled GFR measurement is now a simple outpatient procedure. Nephrologists need to learn how to measure the "best test for kidney function" and make it available to patients. This session highlights how eGFR is not the same as GFR, reviews new techniques for GFR measurement available for clinical use, and describes how to implement them in clinical practice.

Learning Objective(s)

  • Discuss the lack of accuracy of eGFR and its implications for clinical practice
  • Describe the plasma and urinary clearance methods for measuring GFR
  • Explain how to implement GFR measurement in clinical practice

Learning Pathway(s)

  • CKD Non-Dialysis

  • Harold I. Feldman, MD, MSc, FASN
  • Delphine S. Tuot, MD
