Glomerular Diseases and Cancer: Cause or Effect?

Session Description

Patients with cancer can present with a wide range of glomerular disorders, which can be due to either the underlying malignancy or cancer treatment. Cancer can also be a consequence of immunosuppressive therapies used to treat glomerular diseases. This session highlights glomerular diseases associated with various forms of cancer and related cancer treatment and discusses challenges in the diagnosis and management of these disorders. The session also reviews the risk of malignancy associated with immunosuppressive therapy in glomerular diseases.

  • Describe the disease mechanisms, diagnosis, and management of glomerular diseases associated with solid and hematological malignancies
  • Outline the spectrum of glomerular lesions associated with chemotherapeutic agents and hematopoietic stem-cell transplant
  • Explain the rationale and evidence for cancer screening in patients with a new diagnosis of glomerular disease
  • Identify cancer risks in patients with glomerular disease receiving long-term immunosuppressive therapy
