Basic/Clinical Science Session

Nephron Progenitor Fate Determination and Maintenance

November 06, 2022 | 09:30 AM - 11:30 AM

Location: W315, Orange County Convention Center, West Building

Session Description

Low nephron endowment at birth may lead to hypertension and cystic kidney disease in adult life. This session addresses the critical mechanisms that underlie the control of nephron progenitor number. Transcriptional control and epigenetic and cell biological mechanisms of regulating progenitor number are discussed.

Learning Objective(s)

  • Define the role of transcription factors and signaling in nephrons
  • Describe the epigenetic regulation of nephrogenesis
  • Outline the roles of cell migration in progenitor commitment

Learning Pathway(s)

  • Genetic Diseases and Development

Moderators

  • Cristina Cebrian Ligero, PhD
  • Lori L. O'Brien, PhD
