Clinical Practice Session
Current Approaches to the Management of Common Cardiorenal Syndromes
November 03, 2022 | 02:00 PM - 04:00 PM
Location: W307, Orange County Convention Center‚ West Building
Session Description
Nephrologists routinely care for patients with cardiac disease who develop AKI, often superimposed on prior CKD. This session reviews the current approach to the prevention or management of AKI in three high-risk clinical settings: acute (decompensated) heart failure, coronary angiography using iodinated radiocontrast, and cardiac surgery. In addition, this session reviews the kidney effects and safety profile of modern management of congestive heart failure (CHF) and CKD with increasingly complex regimens, including the use of SGLT2 inhibitors, mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists, and other agents.
Learning Objective(s)
- Discuss how to prevent and manage AKI in acute (decompensated) heart failure, including the importance of decongestion
- Explain how to prevent contrast-associated AKI in patients undergoing coronary angiography
- Describe how to prevent and manage AKI in patients undergoing cardiac surgery
- Specify the kidney effects and safety of complex regimens that include SGLT2 inhibitors, mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists, or other agents in the management of patients with CHF and CKD
