Basic/Clinical Science Session
Pediatric AKI Is More Than Just a (Creatinine) Number: Challenges and Advances to Care
November 04, 2022 | 02:00 PM - 04:00 PM
Location: W240, Orange County Convention Center‚ West Building
Session Description
Preventing, diagnosing, and managing AKI can be challenging for pediatric physicians. Small patient size and complex comorbidities often present from birth, and ongoing developmental and maturational changes contribute to the medical complexity of pediatric AKI care. This session highlights the recent improvements to cardiovascular and kidney monitoring in children, including the emergence of novel biomarkers and expanded implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
Learning Objective(s)
- Summarize the challenges in the identification, management, and prevention of AKI in pediatric patients, particularly patients with prematurity and significant comorbidities
- Describe advances in AKI management screening and monitoring in youth
- Report the long-term prognosis of children with history of AKI and identify risk factors for poor prognosis
