Clinical Practice Session
Optimizing the Delivery, Safety, and Outcomes of Kidney Replacement Therapy in People with AKI
November 05, 2022 | 02:00 PM - 04:00 PM
Location: W307, Orange County Convention Center‚ West Building
Session Description
The use of kidney replacement therapy (KRT) in patients with AKI is increasingly evidence-based, with practices guided by the results of multicenter, randomized, controlled clinical trials. However, adverse events, multisystem acute and chronic morbidity, and high mortality remain common outcomes in patients with AKI receiving KRT. This session reviews current evidence guiding KRT in AKI, iatrogenic complications, data-driven quality management systems, and approaches to optimize follow-up and outcomes.
Learning Objective(s)
- Examine the evidence supporting current practices in the provision of KRT for AKI and the gaps in that evidence
- Explain how to mitigate the potential iatrogenic complications of KRT in patients with AKI
- Discuss the use of data-driven multidisciplinary quality management systems to improve KRT delivery and outcomes in AKI
- Describe current approaches to multidisciplinary care in the follow-up of AKI survivors following after hospital discharge
