Fundamentals of Renal Pathology
Course Description
This early program is an introduction to or a refresher of renal pathology, covering the classic pathologic changes recognized in medical diseases of native kidneys and renal transplant pathology. A blend of on-demand lectures and in-person laboratory sessions provides ample opportunities to ask questions and discuss cases with expert renal pathologists. Participants are provided with computers uploaded with digitized, whole-slide images (virtual slides) of biopsies of key diseases. Whole-slide images of "unknown cases" allow participants to test their mastery of the program material. All workshop cases are accompanied by clinical summaries and images of immunofluorescence and electron microscopy. World leaders in renal pathology provide attentive interaction, discussion, guidance, and interpretation of pathologic findings.
ASN designates this blended learning activity for a maximum of 17.0 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
Course Objective(s)
Upon completion of this program, the participant will be able to: 1) describe normal renal microscopic anatomy; 2) discuss key diagnostic lesions for select common renal parenchymal diseases; and 3) explain an overall approach to renal biopsy diagnosis and integrate all diagnostic information to arrive at a diagnosis.
