Basic/Clinical Science Session
Pragmatic Clinical Trials as Means to Update Clinical Practice in CKD-MBD
November 03, 2023 | 02:00 PM - 04:00 PM
Location: Room 119, Pennsylvania Convention Center
Session Description
Many unanswered questions about how best to treat patients on dialysis with hyperphosphatemia and secondary hyperparathyroidism remain. Advances in clinical trial methodology afford the opportunity to begin to answer questions in the management of CKD-MBD through pragmatic clinical trials embedded into clinical practice. This session reviews prior pragmatic trials and lessons learned, provides overviews of two ongoing pragmatic clinical trials focused on the management of hyperphosphatemia, and discusses steps to design a pragmatic clinical trial for secondary hyperparathyroidism.
Learning Objective(s)
- Summarize prior pragmatic trials and lessons learned that could be applied to the area of CKD-MBD
- Provide an overview of the HiLo Trial
- Provide an overview of the PHOSPHATE Trial
- Build the case for a pragmatic clinical trial for the management for secondary hyperparathyroidism
Learning Pathway(s)
- Bones‚ Stones‚ and Mineral Metabolism
- Dialysis
