Basic/Clinical Science Session
Updates on Classic and Novel Effects of FGF-23 on Mineral, Bone, and Iron Metabolism
November 04, 2023 | 02:00 PM - 04:00 PM
Location: Room 119, Pennsylvania Convention Center
Session Description
Knowledge about classic effects of FGF-23 on mineral metabolism has changed our understanding of the pathogenesis of disordered mineral metabolism in CKD. New information that has emerged over the last few years has added to this new knowledge and expanded our understanding of the wide-reaching effects of FGF-23 on mineral, bone, and iron metabolism. This session provides an overview of established knowledge and an update on new information on this evolving field.
Learning Objective(s)
- Provide an update on the current understanding of the pathophysiology of disordered mineral metabolism in CKD
- Describe one hypothesis about the mechanism of FGF-23 elevation in the course of CKD
- Discuss new information on effects of FGF-23 on bone
- Summarize new information on systemic effects of FGF-23 peptides on iron metabolism
Learning Pathway(s)
- Bones‚ Stones‚ and Mineral Metabolism
- CKD Non-Dialysis
