Dyslipidemia in Pediatric CKD: Risk for Stiff Vessels?

November 04, 2023 | 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Location: Room 108, Pennsylvania Convention Center

Session Description

Targeting cardiovascular risk factors early in children and adolescents provides opportunity for prevention of atherosclerotic CVD later in adults. Children with CKD are considered high risk for CVD, and the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in this population is similar to adults. Dyslipidemia is associated with vascular inflammation and stiffness. The session discusses recent updates, additive risk of dyslipidemia in children with CKD, and existing controversies in management of dyslipidemia in children with CKD.

Learning Objective(s)

  • Explain the vascular effects of dyslipidemia in children
  • Discuss recent updates on dyslipidemia in pediatric CKD
  • Describe the relationship between adiposity, dyslipidemia, and cardiovascular risk in pediatric CKD
  • Summarize the controversies in the management of dyslipidemia in children with CKD

Learning Pathway(s)

  • Pediatric Nephrology
  • CKD Non-Dialysis
