Clinical Practice Session
Drug Dosing in Advanced CKD and ESKD
November 03, 2023 | 04:30 PM - 06:00 PM
Location: Room 113, Pennsylvania Convention Center
Session Description
Many medications are cleared by the kidneys. A delicate balance must therefore be achieved between therapeutic and toxic accumulation of medications in patients with reduced kidney function. This session discusses the factors to consider when prescribing and de-prescribing medications for patients with advanced CKD and patients receiving dialysis.
Learning Objective(s)
- Outline the factors to consider when prescribing medications in patients with reduced kidney function
- Evaluate the efficacy of thiazide diuretics in patients with advanced CKD or ESKD on dialysis
- Describe the contribution of tubular secretory function on the clearance of medications in advanced CKD
- Discuss the updated KDIGO guidelines regarding polypharmacy in patients with CKD
