Basic/Clinical Science Session

Bioenergetics of Diabetic Kidneys, Including the Barry M. Brenner, MD, Endowed Lectureship

November 03, 2023 | 02:00 PM - 04:00 PM

Location: Room 120, Pennsylvania Convention Center

Session Description

This session discusses advances in basic and translational research on the bioenergetics of diabetic kidneys. The session presents mitochondria dysfunction linked to inflammation, potential protective factors, potential targets, and involvement of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) distress.

ASN gratefully acknowledges Monarch Pharmaceuticals for support of the Barry M. Brenner, MD, Endowed Lectureship.

Learning Objective(s)

  • Summarize advances on mitochondrial dysfunction and sterile inflammation in diabetic kidney disease
  • Outline advances on potential factors protecting mitochondria (PKM2)
  • Describe a role for the ER in albuminuric kidney diseases
  • Discuss mitochondria as potential therapeutic targets

Learning Pathway(s)

  • Diabetic Kidney Disease
  • CKD Non-Dialysis
