Kidney Transplantation: 2023 Update

Kidney Transplantation: 2023 Update (On-Demand)

October 25, 2023 | 09:00 AM - 09:00 AM

Location: On-Demand, Virtual Only

Session Description

This early program focuses on the evaluation and management of patients with kidney transplants, the appropriate selection of donors, and novel strategies to maximize rates of organ utilization and kidney transplantation. Highlighted topics include personalization of immunosuppressive regimens after transplant and monitoring the health of the allograft. Experts discuss the management of complications such as acute and chronic T cell and antibody-mediated rejection, recurrent disease, malignancies, and opportunistic infections. Experts also address disparities in and strategies to mitigate access to kidney transplantation. Immunology, tissue typing, and immunizations are reviewed in this on-demand and in-person program.

Session Objectives

Upon completion of this program, the participant will be able to: 1) describe the evaluation and management of transplant candidates and potential living donors; 2) discuss current immunosuppression approaches and their risks and benefits; 3) explain common complications following kidney transplantation, such as graft rejection and dysfunction; 4) summarize the changes in the kidney allocation system; and 5) identify disparities that occur in the kidney transplant evaluation process.

In cooperation with the American Society of Transplantation.
