Point-of-Care Ultrasonography in Nephrology: Current Practice and Future Directions
November 09, 2025 | 09:30 AM - 11:30 AM
Location: Room 332A, Convention Center
Session Description
Point-of-care ultrasonography (POCUS) is becoming an integral component of the physical exam, with many US medical schools and internal medicine residencies incorporating its use in training. This trend elevates expectations among nephrology fellows for comprehensive, specialty-specific POCUS education. However, poorly designed training programs risk undermining the credibility of nephrology professional-performed POCUS and jeopardizing patient safety. This expert-led session explores essential POCUS applications in nephrology and key elements of effective curriculum design.
Learning Objective(s)
- Analyze the evidence, benefits, and limitations of POCUS in addressing complex nephrology challenges
- Discuss case-based examples to understand the practical applications of POCUS for nephrology patients
- Identify key components of competency-based POCUS curricula to ensure safe and credible implementation in nephrology practice
Learning Pathway(s)
- AKI and Critical Care
- Interventional Nephrology
