Flash Version (Full)

The Flash version is considered the "full" version and has the most features. This version is aimed at desktop and laptop users and requires Flash Player v.11 or higher to run. Tools and options are located in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen. Additional options are available when right-clicking on a page.
Turn Pages Drag or click page
----
Produces realistic turning effect of page. Trigger areas are the corners and outside edge of page.
  Arrow Keys
----
Use your right and left arrow keys to go forward and backward, respectively.
  Next/Prev Buttons
Click the arrow icons on either side of the page number to move forward or backward.
  Jump to Page #
Type a page number and hit 'enter' to jump directly to that page.
  Thumbnails
Click the thumbnails icon to show images of all pages; clicking a thumbnail will jump to that page.
  Table of Contents
Click the table of contents icon to bring up the TOC window. The TOC within the book itself is also hyperlinked.
Zoom/Magnify Arrow Keys

Use your up and down arrow keys to zoom in and out, respectively.
  Mouse Wheel
----
Use your mouse wheel to zoom in and out.
  Zoom Icons
Click the zoom icons (magnifying glass with +/-) to increase or decrease the current zoom level.
  Pan/Drag
----
When the book is zoomed past the viewport of your browser, you can then use your mouse to intuitively pan the book or drag it around. The 'Pan While Zoomed' and 'Drag While Zoomed' options can be toggled by right-clicking on any page.
Zoom/Tilt/Rotate Zoom Mode
In Zoom Mode, all zoom operations (mouse, keyboard, icons) will affect the zoom/magnification level. This is the default mode when the page is loaded.
  Tilt Mode
In Tilt Mode, all zoom operations (mouse, keyboard, icons) will affect the tilt level.
  Rotate Mode
In Rotate Mode, all zoom operations (mouse, keyboard, icons) will affect the rotation level.
  Reset Book
This resets all visual adjustments (zoom/tilt/rotate) to the book.
Interactive Content Select Text

All text is vector rendered and is selectable via clicking and dragging.
  Copy Text
----
After text has been selected, you can copy it to your clipboard by right-clicking > Copy Text.
  Speak Text
----
After text has been selected, you can hear it spoken out loud by right-clicking > Speak Text.
  Define Term
----
After you have selected a term, you can look up the definition via Merriam-Webster's Medical Dictionary® by right-clicking > Define Term.
  View Images
----
To view the full size image from a page in an overlay, right-click > View Page Images. Please note that some charts/diagrams are actually text objects and not "real" images and therefore will not display.
  Searching
To search for terms, click the Table of Contents icon > click the TOC header in the window > enter your search terms > hit enter. The book will automatically page to the next occurrence of your terms and highlight them.
  Printing
Click the print icon to bring up printing options, which include printing the left/right page, printing the current section, or printing all pages in the document.
Bookmarks Bookmark Icon
Click the bookmark icon to view a list of your saved bookmarks.
  Add Bookmark

To add a bookmark, right-click the page > Bookmark Page.
  Delete Bookmark
To delete a bookmark, in the bookmarks window, drag and slide the bookmark to the right.
Notes Notes Icon
You can save notes that are specific to each issue by clicking the notes icon.
Sound Sound Icon
System sounds, e.g., the page turning sound, can be toggled on/off by clicking the sound icon.
Open PDF Download Icon
You can download the PDF version by clicking the download icon.
  Right-Click

You can open the PDF version by right-clicking the book > Download PDF.
Additional Podcast Icon
Listen to accompanying podcast episodes, if available.
  Claim CME Icon
Clicking the CME icon will take you directly to the CME Center, where you can claim credit for this issue or any other available activities.
  Social Media Icon
Share the current URL on a number of social media outlets.
  Fullscreen Icon
Run the Flash Player in fullscreen. Note: this may cause certain overlays, such as the Add Bookmark dialogue, to be "underneath" the Flash. To mimic the fullscreen behavior while maintaining the stack order, you can hit F11, or in your browser, go to View > Fullscreen.

The HTML5 version is considered the "fallback" version and will run on browsers that do not support Flash. This version is aimed at mobile and touch-enabled devices and requires a browser with HTML5 canvas support. Menu/Options Top/Bottom Toolbars ---- The top and bottom toolbars can be toggled on/off by long-pressing (tap and hold) in the center of the book.
  Options Menu The Options Menu contains useful tools and can be accessed from the top toolbar > upper left icon.
  Settings Menu The Settings Menu contains your configuration and additional options and can be accessed from the top toolbar > upper right icon.
Single/Double Page View Location: Settings Menu Toggle between the single and double page views. Note: the default is based on the available screen width and aspect ratio - landscape screens will start in double page view; portrait screens will start in single page view.
Turn Pages Drag corner of page ---- Produces realistic turning effect of page. Corners can also be clicked to turn the page.
  Swipe Gesture ---- Swipe left or right in the center of a page to go forward and backward, respectively.
  Arrow Keys ---- Use your right and left arrow keys to go forward and backward, respectively.
  Next/Prev Buttons ---- Click the arrow icons on either side of the pages to mode forward or backward. These appear when you hover near the edge of the page and may not be available on touch devices.
  Jump to Page #
Location: Options Menu
Type a page number and hit 'ok' to jump directly to that page.
  Thumbnails ---- N/A. This option is not available in the HTML5 version.
  Table of Contents

Generates a clickable table of contents that appears in the left panel.
Zoom/Magnify Pinch Gesture ---- Pinch in/out in the center to apply incremental zooming to the book. For non-touch browsers, this can be simulated by holding shift+dragging.
  Focus Zoom After zooming via pinch, the page may be blurry. Use the focus icon to render a custom, hi-res version of your current page/zoom. Note: this is not necessary in SVG mode.
  Reset Zoom After zooming via pinch, use this icon to return to the default zoom level.
  Double Tap ---- Double tap anywhere in a page to toggle the magnification level. Note: this method only supports two levels of magnification.
  Zoom Icon Click the zoom icon located in the top right corner to toggle the magnification level. Note: this method only supports two levels of magnification.
  Pan/Drag ---- While zoomed, you can drag the book around. Note: if you zoomed via pinch, then you can swipe to turn pages while zoomed. Otherwise, you will need to zoom out to go to the next page.
Interactive Content Select Text ---- N/A. Pages are rendered as images in HTML5, so text cannot be selected.
  Copy Text ---- N/A. Pages are rendered as images in HTML5, so text cannot be selected.

  View Images

Sound N/A ---- N/A. The HTML5 version does not use any sounds.
SVG Mode Location: Settings Menu SVG Mode uses Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) format to render the pages, which allows them to be scaled infinitely with no loss of quality. Note: this can result in poor performance on slower machines, especially on older mobile devices.
Open PDF Location: Settings Menu The PDF is available for download by going to Settings Menu > Download PDF. You can also set your browser to always open the PDF, rather than the HTML5 version, by going to Settings Menu > View Help > Open PDF > confirm setting.
