William E. Mitch, III, MD, FASN, International Scholars Travel Support Application

The William E. Mitch, III, MD, FASN, International Scholars Program improves the training experience of nephrology fellows in Central and South America as well as Spanish-speaking countries in North America by providing free ASN membership for up to three years. In addition to free ASN membership, the program offers an opportunity to receive travel support to attend ASN Kidney Week.

Established in 2012, this program is named after a former ASN President and recipient of the distinguished John P. Peters Award, William E. Mitch, III, MD, FASN. Dr. Mitch is committed to helping develop meaningful programs for the next generation of nephrologists, to improving the educational continuum for nephrologists in Latin America, and to making ASN’s initiatives more accessible throughout the Americas.

Benefits for Travel Support Recipients

The ASN William E. Mitch, III, MD, FASN International Scholars Travel Support:

  1. Provides free registration to the 2017 ASN Annual Meeting at Kidney Week and an $800 USD travel stipend to five Mitch International Scholars.
  2. Provides free registration to the 2017 ASN Annual Meeting at Kidney Week and an $800 USD travel stipend to three nephrology fellows (who are underrepresented minorities) from US and Canadian training programs.

Eligibility

The ASN William E. Mitch, III, MD, FASN International Scholars Program and travel support opportunity is available to ASN members who are nephrology fellows in Central and South America as well as Spanish-speaking countries in North America.

The three additional nephrology fellows must be underrepresented minorities as defined by the Association of American Medical Colleges and from US or Canadian training programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

Application

To apply, a candidate must:

  1. Log into the application using an ASN ID.
  2. Complete applicant information, demographics, training level, etc.
  3. Complete a 200 word essay.
  4. Upload a CV.

A CV must be submitted as part of the online application. Applications received without CVs will not be processed.

NOTE: Travel support applicants may apply to any and all travel support opportunities (if eligible); however, only one award will be given per person. All applicants will be notified within six weeks of the application deadline.
