World Kidney Day March 14, 2024
#SockItToKidneyDisease
Post Your Socks!
The Northwestern University George M. O'Brien Kidney Core Center (NU GoKidney) celebrates World Kidney Day with their "Sock It to Kidney Disease" Campaign to help raise awareness and empower people living with kidney diseases. Working with kidney disease research advocate and hip-hop artist David Rush, who first suspected kidney health problems by how tight his socks would get around his ankles (a sign of water retention that could be related to heart and kidney function), NU GoKidney encourages everyone to show their socks on social media to demonstrate solidarity with David and others all over the world.
In conjunction with NU GoKidney, ASN encourages you to participate in the #SockItToKidneyDisease campaign by posting your socks on social media and tagging both @ASNKidney and @NU_Nephrology. The campaign aims to raise awareness of symptom management and patient empowerment for people living with kidney diseases.
I am delighted that ASN will be joining NU GoKidney in this year's #SockItToKidneyDisease campaign. Last year, we reached over 800,000 people, and this year — with the help of the ASN membership — we are hoping to reach even more!
To participate in #SockItToKidneyDisease this World Kidney Day:
- Wear your boldest and brightest socks on March 9.
- Taking a picture of your socks to share on social media.
- Posting your picture on Instagram or X with the hashtag #SockItToKidneyDisease and tagging both @ASNKidney and @NU_Nephrology.

Join the Movement
ASN is joining the worldwide effort by leveraging the campaign we introduced at ASN Kidney Week 2021. Throughout March and this year, we will be shining the light on the ASN initiative, We're United 4 Kidney Health.
The "4" references the four priorities that ASN members and the kidney community deemed most pressing in our practices and care.
