ASN Biography
Kalani L. Raphael, MD, MS, FASN, is a nephrologist and Professor of Medicine at University of Utah and VA Salt Lake City Health Care System. He is internationally recognized as a leader in the area of acid-base balance in CKD. His research has been funded by NIH, the Department of Veterans Affairs, National Kidney Foundation, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. He is also co-leader of a NIH-funded R25 kidney research and education training program, co-leader of the Center for Pacific Islander Veterans Health, and advocate for Pacific Islander communities. His work with ASN includes service on the Kidney Week Education Committee, Kidney Health Guidance Oversight Committee, Continuous Professional Development Committee, Loan Mitigation Pilot Program Committee, and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee.
