Mary Tessie Behrens, MD, FASN, WIN Faculty

ASN Biography

Mary (Tessie) Behrens, MD, FASN, is a graduate of the University Of Maryland School Of Medicine and completed a residency and nephrology fellowship at University of Maryland. She then did a year of chief residency and then was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at University of Maryland for several years.

Dr. Behrens went into private practice and now is a partner in Mid-Atlantic Nephrology Associates, P.A. in Maryland. She is currently a member of their board. Dr. Behrens has been Chair of the Practicing Nephrology Advisory Group of the American Society of Nephrology, Chair of the Medical Advisory Board of the National Kidney Foundation of Maryland, President of the Medical Staff at St. Agnes Hospital in Maryland, a member of the Maryland Commission of Kidney Disease and a Counselor for Women in Nephrology. Dr. Behrens is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a Fellow of the National Kidney Foundation.

Dr. Behrens has received several teaching awards from the residents and has received the Volunteer of the Year award from the National Kidney Foundation of Maryland. She remains active in patient care, dialysis, transplantation, and teaching.
