John M. Burkart, MD, is Professor of Medicine in the Department of Nephrology at Wake Forest University Medical Center in Winston Salem, North Carolina. He also serves as Chief Medical Officer for Health Systems Management in Tifton, Georgia as well as Corporate Medical Director of the Wake Forest outpatient dialysis units and Emory University outpatient dialysis centers.
Dr. Burkart has served as Past Co-Chair of the American Society of Nephrology’s Board Review Course & Update as well as Past Co-Chair of the pre course on dialysis during the ASN Kidney Week. He also chairs the Home Dialysis University Course, which was started in 1999.
He is interested in all aspects of home dialysis, and has authored and contributed to many journal articles and book chapters on the subject. He is also an author and editor for UpToDate.
