Mark A. Perazella, MD, MS, FASN, BRCU Faculty

ASN Biography

Mark A. Perazella, MD, FASN, is a Board-certified nephrologist and Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine, Section of Nephrology at Yale University School of Medicine and VA Medical Center in West Haven, CT. His academic career has centered on his role as a clinician and educator. He completed a 12-year term as Nephrology Fellowship Training Program Director at Yale University and is currently Director of the Acute Dialysis Program at Yale-New Haven Hospital, Medical Director for the Yale Physician Associate Program, and Yale On-line Physician Assistant Program. He is also Director of Acute Dialysis services and CRRT at the VA Medical Center in West Haven.

Dr. Perazella was Co-Chair for the NKF Spring Clinical Meeting 2019 in Boston and Chair for the virtual Spring Clinical Meeting 2020 meeting. Dr. Perazella is former Education Co-Director for the ASN Board Review Course & Update. He completed a 6-year term as a member of the ABIM Nephrology Subspecialty Board and Exam Writing Committee. He also served on the ASN Continuing Professional Development and Post-Graduate Education Committees and was Chair of the ASN Onco-Nephrology Forum Group. He formerly served on the ASN Training Program Directors Executive Committee and NKF Education Committee.

Dr. Perazella is active in editorial work. He is Deputy Editor for Kidney 360, co-Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Onco-Nephrology, and Section Editor for AKI for Clinical Nephrology. He also serves on the Editorial Board for the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, American Journal of Medicine, and American Journal of Kidney Diseases. He was an Assistant Editor for Seminars in Dialysis and Associate Editor for the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology. He has published over 300 articles, written numerous book chapters, and has co-edited 4 textbooks including Nephrology in 30 Days, Primer on Kidney Diseases, Current Diagnosis and Treatment: Nephrology and Hypertension, and Onco-Nephrology. His clinical areas of interest are drug-induced kidney disease, onco-nephrology, HIV-related kidney disease, and complications of hemodialysis.
