October 17, 1946 - June 23, 2020

Michael C. Smith, age 73, born October 17, 1946, passed away June 23, 2020. Beloved son of the late Charles and Mary. Devoted husband of over 40 years to the late Kathleen (nee Flynn). Loving father of Michael, Brian (Courtney) and Patrick (Sheila). Dearest grandfather of Abigail, Rachel, Jacob, Madeline, Riley, Valerie & Rebecca. Also survived by sister-in-law Lucy Schall, brother-in-law James Flynn and was a dear friend to many. After serving as a physician in the U.S. Army, he had a decorated career as a Nephrologist spanning over thirty years at University Hospitals in Cleveland, where he impacted many lives as both a physician and educator at Case Western Reserve University's School of Medicine. A graduate of the Case School of Applied Science and The Ohio State University College of Medicine, his passion for Ohio State earned him the name "Dr. Buckeye" from family and friends. His sense of humor will be missed and he had a passion for all Cleveland sports teams, traveling, fishing, cooking, collecting wine and was an avid reader. The family finds peace in the fact that he has entered into eternal life and is now reunited with his wife, Kathy. View obituary »
