Susan E. Thomas, MD

Susan Ellyn Thomas MD, age 54 of Canton passed away on April 10, 2021 following a lengthy illness.

Susan was born in Oak Lawn, IL to her loving parents James Milo and Barbara Ellen Thomas (née Kucera).

She graduated from Rich East High School, Park Forest, IL; the University of Illinois, Champaign, IL; Loyola Stritch School of Medicine, Alpha Omega Alpha honored member, Maywood Park, IL. She did her pediatric residency at the University of Chicago and her nephrology fellowship at Seattle Children's Hospital. She was the Director of Pediatric Transplant at the University of Michigan Mott Hospital.

Susan dedicated her life to helping children with kidney disease. She was inspired by the fine doctors at the University of Chicago who helped her as a teen with her own transplant.

She enjoyed traveling across the United States visiting national parks with her mother and a 25th birthday trip to London, Paris and Zurich.

She is survived by her father James Thomas, mother Barbara Thomas, brother Jim Thomas, uncles Tim (Michelle) Thomas and Phillip (Nancy) Kucera and former husband Martin Schendel.
