Momir H. Polenakovic

The ISN was saddened to learn of the death of esteemed colleague, Professor Momir H. Polenakovic, from Covid bronchopneumonia on March 6, 2021.

Prof. Polenakovic founded the Macedonian Society of Nephrology, Dialysis, Transplantation and Artificial Organs (MSNDTAO) and was co-founder of the Balkan Association of Nephrology, Dialysis, Transplantation and Artificial Organs (BANTAO).

He organized many international congresses and ISN-supported CME courses. His organizational skills and hospitality were recognized and admired by friends and colleagues attending these events.

Since his retirement in 2005, he continued publishing medical papers in his research areas of glomerulonephropathies and tubulointerstitial diseases and is cited in some 228 Medline articles.

Prof. Polenakovic was a tireless promoter of the journal Prilozi, elevating it to inclusion within Medline, thus raising the profile of authors from his home country, North Macedonia. He received many international awards, including the first ISN Pioneer Award for the East and Central Europe Region.

The ISN extends its deepest condolences to Professor Polenakovic's friends, colleagues, and family.
