Penny Elizabeth DeFranco, MD

June 29, 1962 - February 4, 2023

Penny Elizabeth DeFranco, MD, 60, of Lyndhurst, NJ passed away Saturday, February 4th, at her residence.

Penny was born in Phillipsburg, NJ on June 29, 1962, a daughter of the late Joan B. (Bingaman) DeFranco and Dr. Domenick DeFranco. Penny was a Nephrologist and founder of South Mountain Nephrology and was affiliated with St. Barnabas Medical Center and Clara Mass Medical Center. She was a 1980 graduate of Bangor High School and a 1985 graduate of UTESA School of Medicine.

She was ranked as a top Doctor in New Jersey from 2008 - 2019. Penny was awarded the 2019 leading Physician of the World and the Top Nephrologist of New Jersey. Penny was a recipient of the 2012 Heritage Registry of Who's Who of Doctors, and had several articles published in the American Journal of Nephrology.

Penny enjoyed traveling, especially all over the world, traveling to six of seven continents.

Penny is survived by two sisters, Dr. Mary Ellen DeFranco and Suzy DeFranco, both of Bangor, PA, a niece Joan Fahrenkrug of Long Branch, NJ, a nephew Jeffrey D. Paulson of Bangor, PA, partner Yves Rene Lominy of Lyndhurst, NJ, and her 2 Yorkies; Jack & Peanut.
