Roman Mangel, MD

February 10, 2023

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Roman Mangel on Friday, February 10, 2023, at the age of eighty-four, after a courageous battle, bravely fought. Most beloved husband and soulmate of Lillian Rykles for sixty-one years. Proud and loving father and father-in-law of Jeffrey Mangel and Lisa Lansky, Joy Mangel and Robert Stein, Gary Mangel and Mai Yasué. Cherished Zaidie of Alexandra, Matthew, Zachary, Noah, Keira, and Melia. Adored brother and brother-in-law of Irene and the late Bernie Kott, and the late Miriam and the late Shia Herszkopf. Devoted son of the late Sophie and the late Henry Mangel, and son-in-law of the late Molly and the late Moe Rykles. He will be greatly missed and remembered by his nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Ronnie spent much of his life working as a Nephrologist and established the Renal Transplant Program at the Montreal General Hospital. He was respected by his colleagues and trainees and adored by his patients. Ronnie was an incredibly special person who touched countless lives, both personally and professionally. He always spoke kindly, treated people with dignity and respect, and had the ability to see the good in everyone. He had a smile for everyone he met. Ronnie was happiest being with his wife, children, and grandchildren and shared many beautiful memories with each one of them. He and Lillian shared a passion for music festivals and travelling, especially cruising, and they never missed a family celebration.
