Ramdas Pisharody, MD, DM, FRCP

Dr. Ramdas Pisharody, former principal of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, died of a heart attack on Wednesday. He was 62.
A reputed nephrologist, Dr. Pisharody was the driving force behind the establishment of the Kerala Network for Organ Sharing. His tenure as principal and vice-principal at the Medical College saw several modernisation initiatives, including the super specialty block and a new OP block.
He had also served at the medical colleges in Kottayam, Alappuzha and Thrissur. After retirement, he was serving as a nephrology consultant at SUT and KIMS hospitals.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Health Minister K K Shailaja condoled the death of Pisharody. “He played a key role in establishing the KNOS and was an able administrator. His death is a huge loss to the health sector,” the Chief Minister recalled.
He is survived by his wife, Dr. K. Jayasree, who serves as Professor of Pathology at the Regional Cancer Centre, and his two daughters, Vineetha and Sangeetha.
