Edward Joseph Weinman

Edward Joseph Weinman, 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 8, 2025. Ed was born in the Bronx, New York in 1940. He graduated from Bronx High School of Science, Columbia University, and Boston Medical College. He completed his internal medicine residency at New York University and a nephrology fellowship at Yale. Ed served in the United States Air Force at Tinker Air Force Base.
Throughout an esteemed career spanning over 50 years, Ed held faculty positions at medical schools throughout New York, Texas, California, West Virginia, and Maryland. He was a member of numerous professional societies and organizations and published countless scholarly articles, book chapters, peer reviews, and editorials. He was a frequent presenter at national conferences, grand rounds, and as a visiting professor, and remained dedicated to sharing his passion for kidney research with many generations of physicians over the years. Ed was a teacher, mentor, and role model to many, as evidenced by his many recognitions as Teacher of the Year.
In addition to many other awards and accolades, in 2010 Ed was extremely honored to receive the William S. Middleton Award in recognition of his outstanding scientific contributions and achievement for his research into the NHERF-1 protein. This annual award is the highest honor awarded by the Veterans Association in the area of biomedical science.
Ed will be sorely missed and remembered for his contagious grin, dry wit, and genuine interest in those around him.
