George Alan Kaysen, MD, PhD

George Alan Kaysen, MD, PhD, age 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by family.

A UC Davis Professor Emeritus and former Chair of Nephrology and Biochemistry, Dr. Kaysen transformed the understanding of inflammation and albumin metabolism in kidney disease. His research significantly influenced the care of patients with chronic kidney disease and dialysis.

Dr. Kaysen dedicated his career to medicine, research, teaching, and mentorship. In addition to his academic leadership, he served as a physician with the VA and contributed as an expert witness in the Sacramento water intoxication trial.

Colleagues, students, and patients admired Dr. Kaysen for his intellect, leadership, and commitment to advancing kidney care and medical science.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, children, grandchildren, extended family, and many friends and colleagues.
