Stanley Marshall Rosen

Stanley Marshall Rosen, MD, pioneered advances in dialysis, kidney transplantation, and renal medicine in the United Kingdom and the United States.
After earning his medical degree from the University of Leeds, Dr. Rosen conducted research at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston alongside kidney transplantation pioneers Dr. John Merrill and Nobel Laureate Dr. Joseph Murray.
In 1966, Dr. Rosen returned to Leeds as the city's first formally appointed consultant nephrologist. He established chronic and home dialysis programs, advocated for kidney donation, and helped lay the foundation for a regional kidney replacement program serving much of Yorkshire at a time when dialysis services were limited and kidney transplantation was still in its infancy in Britain.
In 1973, Dr. Rosen moved to California for postgraduate work at the University of California, Irvine, where he continued his research and advanced renal medicine and dialysis services. Beginning in 1974, he cared for patients throughout Orange County and beyond for the remainder of his career.
Dr. Rosen is remembered for pioneering advances in nephrology, improving the care of people living with kidney diseases, and serving his patients with intelligence, warmth, and generosity. He is survived by his partner and extended family.
