Thomas F. Ferris, MD

December 27, 1930 - July 19, 2019

Dr. Thomas F. Ferris, of Medina, MN, passed away peacefully at home on July 19, 2019 at the age of 88.

Devoted husband to the late Carol Connor Ferris, to whom he was betrothed for 62 years, Dr. Ferris is survived by his brothers Charles and Henry Ferris; and his sons Richard, M.D. and Thomas and daughters Deirdre and Claudia, M.D.; and grandchildren, Anna, Connor, Cormac, Aidan, and Kendall.

Boston born, Tom had an illustrious career in academic medicine; was an avid golfer and sailor, beloved father, a wonderful, kind, and generous man in his professional and personal life.

He received his B.S. from Georgetown University and earned his medical degree from Yale University Medical School, graduating Alpha Omega Alpha. He served on editorial boards of the American Journal of Medicine, Kidney and Hypertension, the American Journal of Nephrology, Archives of Internal Medicine, Kidney International, and the Journal of Clinical Research; and was a member of Board of Governors on the Board of Internal Medicine (1982-84), Chairman of the American Board of Nephrology (1982-84), and the American Society of Nephrology (1982-88), and served as President of the American Society of Nephrology (1988).
