Partnership for Responsible Augmented Intelligence (AI) in Kidney Health
Established in 2024, the goal of the Partnership for Responsible AI in Kidney Health is to create and support a community of diverse stakeholders interested in augmented intelligence (AI) and its impact on kidney health. The foundation for this new effort is the recommendations of the 2022 ASN Augmented Intelligence and Digital Health Task Force. AI is a rapidly changing field with implications for health care and kidney health. ASN is proud to be leading medical specialty societies as health care adapts to the use of AI and societies learn how best to support their members.
The effort will advance understanding of AI, Machine Learning, and Generative AI. Clinical domains such as AKI, CKD, Dialysis, and Transplant will serve as the cross functional areas for projects and education. The ASN hopes this effort will support patient care, drive research and innovation as well as educate and train the nephrology workforce on AI.
AI in Nephrology: A Hands-on Primer Workshop
2-Day Workshop: March 16-17, 2026 New York Academy of Medicine | New York, New York
Co-Hosted by American Society of Nephrology, Windreich Department of Artificial Intelligence and Human Health at Icahn Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and Renal Research Institute.
This hands-on workshop is designed to introduce nephrologists, fellows, nurses, dietitians, and social workers to the fundamentals of artificial intelligence (AI). Sessions are designed to engage care providers with experience at every level. Kidney care will be front and center and will be used in the simulation of practical applications and case studies. The session will be interactive and hands on, and each participant will be required to bring a computer to complete workshop exercises. Fellows are invited to submit abstracts for consideration and presentation.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Describe the basics of artificial intelligence (AI) and relevant applications in the delivery of healthcare.
- Demonstrate practical applications of AI in the delivery of kidney care.
- Understand their competency and gaps in using AI responsibly through the interactive, hands-on tutorial.

AI in Nephrology Conference
Meeting Site: University of California, San Diego School of Medicine
Co-Hosted Event: UCSD, UAB, Division of Data Driven and Digital Medicine at Mount Sinai Healthcare System.
This conference, supported by ASN travel grants, is a broader scientific and academic forum. It focuses more heavily on cutting-edge research, emerging methods, and scholarly exchange among investigators working at the intersection of nephrology and data science. Perfect for those with a primary interest in deeper research discussion, methodological innovation, and networking with investigators in a more traditional academic meeting format.
Travel Grants Available! Conference organizers are pleased to announce the availability of travel grants for fellows, supported by the American Society of Nephrology. These grants aim to promote participation and foster collaboration in the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence in nephrology. Those selected will each receive a $1,250 stipend and complimentary registration. Deadline for submission is February 13, 2026.
