Session Description
Transplant candidates and recipients are affected by the obesity epidemic plaguing the general population. This session explores obesity's effect on access to the transplant waiting list and transplant outcomes, and possible solutions.

Jordana B. Cohen, MD, MS
Jordana Cohen, MD, MSCE is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology in the Renal-Electrolyte and Hypertension Division and Senior Scholar in the Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of Pennsylvania, Perelman School of Medicine. Her research interests include physiology-driven hypertension pharmacoepidemiology, blood pressure measurement accuracy, and out-of-office blood pressure monitoring. She is the principal investigator of NIH K23 and R01 grants evaluating the pharmacologic management of hypertension in high-risk populations, and co-PI of the Randomized Elimination or Prolongation of Angiotensin Converting Enzyme Inhibitors and Angiotensin Receptor Blockers in Coronavirus Disease 2019 (REPLACE COVID) trial. She is a coinvestigator in the Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort (CRIC) at the Scientific Data Coordinating Center at UPenn and co-chair of the CRIC Blood Pressure Working Group.

Rowena B. Delos Santos, MD, FASN
Rowena Delos Santos, MD is a transplant nephrologist at Washington University in St. Louis/Barnes-Jewish Transplant Center. She primarily evaluates and manages kidney and pancreas transplant recipients. She has served and participated in committees involving transplant interests at her transplant center and university, AST, ASN, and UNOS. She also serves as the transplant fellowship program director. She participates in studies that investigates new medications or treatment options that aim to mitigate post-transplant complications and improve the care of kidney transplant recipients. Her clinical interests involve prevention and management of long term issues such as diabetes, obesity, MBD; high-risk transplants, ABO incompatible transplants, family planning and pregnancy in transplant, recurrent diseases, heritable diseases and aHUS management in transplant.

Jayme E. Locke, MD, MPH
Dr. Locke is an abdominal transplant surgeon specializing in innovative strategies for the transplantation of incompatible organs, disparities in access to and outcomes after solid organ transplantation, and transplantation of HIV-infected end-stage patients. Her research interests include complex statistical analysis and modeling of transplant outcomes and behavioral research focused on health disparities. She has authored more than 120 articles in peer-reviewed journals and 20 book chapters, and is an NIH-funded investigator. In addition, Dr. Locke is a Deputy Editor for the American Journal of Transplantation, and is an editorial board member for Annals of Surgery. Dr. Locke is currently the Mark H. Deierhoi MD Endowed Professor in Surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and serves as the Director of the Comprehensive Transplant Institute and Chief of the Division of Abdominal Transplant Surgery.
