Quality Metrics in CRRT: Beyond Timing and Dose, Including the Burton D. Rose, MD, Endowed Lectureship
October 22, 2020 | 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Location: On-Demand
Session Description
CRRT use in critically ill patients with AKI is increasing. However, there are large practice variations in its application, and most quality metrics are limited to therapy initiation, dose delivery, and filtration duration. Development and evaluation of other quality metrics that measure CRRT delivery and the essential associated care have been suboptimal. This session examines alternative quality metrics that can potentially affect outcomes and thus provide guidance for the implementation of a comprehensive program for monitoring quality.
ASN gratefully acknowledges Wolters Kluwer (publisher of UpToDate), the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Department of Medicine Foundation, the Rose Family, and several of Dr. Rose's colleagues for supporting this lectureship.
Learning Objective(s)
- Specify the key considerations for implementing, monitoring, and optimizing CRRT delivery
- Examine the relation of novel clinical parameters (prescribed versus achieved fluid removal and incident hypophosphatemia) with outcomes in critically ill patients on CRRT
- Describe strategies used to correct electrolyte management with CRRT and how to prevent CRRT from contributing to electrolyte abnormalities
- Discuss the pharmacology principles that guide modern strategies for dosing medications on CRRT
- Explain the importance of providing appropriate nutrition and vitamin and micronutrient supplementation
