She has a long standing focus on immune mediated kidney disease, most notably lupus nephritis and has undertaken research into mechanisms and treatment with a strong focus on minimising steroid exposure by use of more targeted therapies such as B cell depletion. She has run and participated in several randomised controlled trials, and contributed to international guidelines. She also has developed clinical and research expertise in optimising pregnancies in women with kidney disease. She has run a joint renal obstetric clinic since 1996, overseeing the care of more than 900 women. Her research has focused on better diagnosis of pre eclampsia in such women as well as optimising care and prognosis - she was the founding national coordinator of the Renal Association Rare Renal Pregnancy and CKD registry and in 2019 was coauthor on the first ever guideline for the management of pregnancy in women with kidney disease - commissioned by the Renal Association and NICE assured.
