Basic/Clinical Science Session

What to Target: Insights into the Pathogenesis of Glomerular Disease

November 06, 2021 | 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Location: On-Demand, Virtual Only

Session Description

Taken together, nephritic and nephrotic disorders consistently rank among the top ten causes of mortality in the United States. Despite improved understanding of glomerular disease pathogenesis, validated therapeutic targets remain scarce, and clinical trial activity remains relatively limited. This session takes a deep dive into the rationale for targeting specific signaling pathways in the treatment of glomerular disease.

Learning Objective(s)

  • Describe the mechanistic rationale for sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) targeting in non-diabetic kidney diseases
  • Define the contribution of Rho/Rac/CDC42 signaling to podocyte homeostasis
  • Define the complex role of Nrf2 as a therapeutic target in proteinuric kidney disease
