Clinical Practice Session
Fluid Management in High-Risk Populations
November 05, 2023 | 09:30 AM - 11:30 AM
Location: Room 201, Pennsylvania Convention Center
Session Description
Fluid balance typically changes dynamically through multiple phases in critical illness and other high-risk settings. The approach to fluid balance management similarly changes according to the phase of illness. This session reviews approaches to the use of intravenous fluids, diuretics, vasoactive drugs, and KRT to achieve fluid balance goals in several high-risk populations, including critically ill patients with AKI, acute lung injury, acute heart failure, or requiring perioperative care for major surgery.
Learning Objective(s)
- Evaluate the timing and choice of fluid or diuretic therapy in intensive care unit patients with AKI
- Explain how to approach fluid balance management in patients with acute hypoxemic respiratory failure caused by acute lung injury
- Discuss the approach to decongestion in acute heart failure
- Describe how to approach perioperative fluid balance management in patients undergoing major surgery
Learning Pathway(s)
