Clinical Practice Session
Young People, Grown-Up Diseases: Approaches to "Adult" Kidney Diseases in Children and Young Adults
November 07, 2025 | 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM
Location: Room 310A, Convention Center
Session Description
The range of kidney diseases varies widely between the pediatric/adolescent and adult populations. It is important to be aware of kidney diseases that may present at an unusually young age, as some of these disorders are novel and can occur near the transition from pediatric/adolescent to adult nephrology. This session focuses on diseases that are typically considered in the adult population but may present in children or young adults. The discussion reviews pathologic features, differential diagnosis, and overview of clinical presentation and management.
Learning Objective(s)
- Discuss patterns of injury and significance of monoclonal immunoglobulin-related diseases presenting in childhood and adolescence
- Identify potential underlying causes of membranous nephropathy in the pediatric and adolescent age group and associated antigens
- Compare biopsy features and potential underlying causes of thrombotic microangiopathy in children and young adults
- Describe clinicopathologic features and genetics of inherited diseases that may present in the pediatric and adolescent population
Learning Pathway(s)
- Pathology
- Pediatric Nephrology
