Clinical Practice Session
Guidance for Outpatient Dialysis for AKI: How to Optimize Outcomes
November 08, 2025 | 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM
Location: General Assembly B, Convention Center
Session Description
Since 2017, patients in the United States with severe AKI who continue to need dialysis upon hospital discharge can be managed in outpatient ESKD dialysis facilities. Although most clinicians concur that the management of patients with AKI should differ from ESKD protocols, there is significant variability in AKI dialysis care and a lack of evidence-based guidelines. In this session, experts review available literature and provide advice on optimizing care for this vulnerable population.
Learning Objective(s)
- Discuss recent epidemiology and practice patterns for care of outpatient dialysis in patients with AKI
- Summarize optimal care practices for AKI requiring dialysis (AKI-D) to promote kidney function recovery
- Describe priorities for research and policy changes to improve AKI-D care
