Re-Exploring Peritoneal Dialysis as a Treatment Option for AKI

Session Description

Starting in 2025, a policy change by US Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) extended Medicare coverage to include home dialysis therapy for patients with AKI requiring dialysis. Compared with hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis (PD), in particular, offers superior preservation of residual kidney function, potentially providing benefits for kidney recovery in patients with AKI. This session shares experiences with PD in the management of AKI and explores strategies for advancing this modality as a viable treatment option for AKI.
