Basic/Clinical Science Session
Dialysis-Dependent AKI: Therapies for Kidney Recovery and Improving Cardiovascular Outcomes
November 09, 2025 | 09:30 AM - 11:30 AM
Location: Room 362A, Convention Center
Session Description
Patients who develop AKI requiring hemodialysis often have many comorbidities and acute insults that lead to the need for kidney replacement therapy (KRT). This session reviews factors leading to the need for KRT, including discussion of CRRT vs. intermittent hemodialysis (iHD). This session also discusses predictors of AKI recovery, impact on cardiovascular outcomes, and how to balance the need to effectively treat patients while preserving the kidneys in hopes of recovery.
Learning Objective(s)
- Describe manifestations leading to AKI-dependent dialysis
- Explain how to balance dialysis-dependent AKI therapy options (CRRT, iHD) to treat the patient while protecting the kidneys
- Identify predictors of post-AKI recovery
- Discuss how progression of CKD can be halted after AKI and describe novel therapies for stabilization
Learning Pathway(s)
- Dialysis
- AKI and Critical Care
