Educational Symposium
Considerations for Incorporating Hemodiafiltration into Dialysis Care
November 07, 2025 | 12:45 PM - 01:45 PM
Location: Lanier Grand Ballroom D, Hilton Americas-Houston
Session Description
The use of hemodiafiltration, which combines diffusive and convective transport, is exceedingly rare in the United States and Canada as a kidney replacement modality for ESKD, but it is anticipated to become more widespread with the US Food and Drug Administration's recent approval of hemodiafiltration systems. This symposium critically reviews the scientific rationale and practical considerations for incorporating hemodiafiltration into routine dialysis care.
Support is provided by an educational grant from Fresenius Medical Care.
Learning Objective(s)
- Explain the rationale for using hemodiafiltration as a kidney replacement therapy modality for dialysis-dependent CKD
- Summarize available data on the effects of hemodiafiltration on clinical and patient-reported outcomes
- Discuss the practical aspects of providing hemodiafiltration in the outpatient dialysis setting, including patient selection and prescription individualization
