Better Sweet: Navigating Diabetes in CKD
November 12, 2011 | 04:30 PM - 06:30 PM
Location: 103
Session Description
Diabetes mellitus is the major cause of chronic kidney disease and end-stage renal disease worldwide. Many changes have occurred in the management of diabetes. Much pre-dialysis management is directed toward cardiovascular risk reduction. Recently, two large clinical trials, the ACCORD study and the NAVIGATOR Study Group, reported findings.
Session Objectives
Upon completion of this session, the participant will be able to: 1) describe the effect of insulin secretagogues on cardiovascular outcome in impaired glucose tolerance; 2) describe the effect of intensive blood pressure control and combination lipid therapy on cardiovascular event reduction in type 2 diabetes mellitus; and 3) be familiar with tools needed to manage diabetes in CKD, such as latest insulin regimens, insulin sensitizing agents, and oral glycemics.
