Kidney Week

Maintenance Dialysis

Day I: Maintenance Dialysis

October 31, 2017 | 07:00 AM - 06:00 PM

Location: Room 391, Morial Convention Center

Session Description

The treatment of patients with stage 5 kidney disease is always evolving. Research findings challenge old paradigms and introduce new concepts; technologic developments offer new opportunities and therapeutic options; and additional financial constraints constantly push us toward providing high value care. This program critically reviews established norms and explores emerging concepts in dialysis care. It synthesizes new and old data and encourages physicians to incorporate these data into their daily clinical practice. It emphasizes improving patient well-being and outcomes as well as case-based approaches. The program uses debates to engage the audience and highlight legitimate differences in approach. Underlying physiology and pathophysiology are discussed, along with potential therapeutic interventions, such as new peritoneal dialysis (PD) developments, patient-centered care, and cardiovascular risk reduction.
