IgA Nephropathy - Understanding the Role of the Complement Pathway
This is a non-CME disease state presentation that will review the pathophysiology of Immunoglubin A Nephropathy (IgAN), including the role of the complement pathway in disease onset and progression.
Dr. Gerald Appel is currently a Fellow of the American Society of Nephrology and Tenured Professor of Medicine and Director of The Glomerular Kidney Center at Columbia University Medical Center. He established, at Columbia University, the first center for glomerular disease in the United States. Dr. Appel has published over 400 manuscripts and book chapters during his career. He has likewise mentored many fellows who now run glomerular centers around the country. The National Kidney Foundation awarded Dr. Appel its lifetime achievement award in 2005. In addition to Dr. Appel's other achievements, he is one of the founding and associate editors of the kidney disease section of Up to Date, a major online reference for nephrologists all over the world.
