Basic/Clinical Science Session
Microvascular Inflammation in Kidney Transplantation: An Unresolved Dilemma
November 03, 2023 | 02:00 PM - 04:00 PM
Location: Room 109, Pennsylvania Convention Center
Session Description
Microvascular inflammation (MVI) has been a long-recognized histologic feature in the diagnosis of antibody-mediated rejection. This session explores non-HLA causes of MVI and the utility of gene expression profiling and histologic scoring as prognostic tools.
ASN thanks the Renal Pathology Society for assistance with this session.
Learning Objective(s)
- Explain how MVI can result from both antibody-dependent and antibody-independent mechanisms of endothelial injury
- Discuss the clinical significance of MVI in the absence of positive donor-specific antibodies
- Describe the importance of capillaritis as identified by gene expression profiling
- Assess combinations of histologic findings, including MVI, in transplant outcomes
Learning Pathway(s)
- Pathology
- Kidney Transplantation
