Clinical Practice Session
Hiding in Plain Sight: Cases of Drugs as Kidney Toxins
November 04, 2023 | 02:00 PM - 04:00 PM
Location: Room 201, Pennsylvania Convention Center
Session Description
This session discusses contemporary issues in drug-associated AKI. Cases are used to highlight key principles. Clinical domains addressed include immune checkpoint inhibitor toxicity, antimicrobial nephrotoxicity associated with drug combinations, emerging nephrotoxins identified through big data applications, and the need for nephrotoxin stewardship in patients with a high nephrotoxin burden.
Learning Objective(s)
- Characterize the typical pattern and management of immune checkpoint inhibitor nephrotoxicity
- Debate the nephrotoxicity of piperacillin/tazobactam and vancomycin alone and in combination, using illustrative cases and contemporary literature
- Discuss the use of big data to identify new nephrotoxins
- Articulate the impact of nephrotoxin stewardship on patient outcomes
Learning Pathway(s)
- AKI and Critical Care
