Clinical Practice Session
Banff Classification: Updates, Progress, and Challenges for Clinicians and Pathologists
November 07, 2025 | 02:00 PM - 04:00 PM
Location: Room 351D, Convention Center
Session Description
The Banff Classification of Allograft Pathology is an international consensus classification that undergoes review/revision every two years. Recent significant changes to the classification include the addition of new diagnostic categories to capture more cases of potential antibody-mediated rejection, as well as updates in molecular diagnostic techniques and immunologic testing. This session focuses on the most significant updates to the Banff classification and their clinical implications.
Learning Objective(s)
- Identify recent updates to the Banff classification and the implications for diagnosis and clinical intervention
- List new Banff diagnostic categories associated with microvascular inflammation
- Explain the clinical context and utility of biopsy-based molecular diagnostics in kidney allograft rejection
- Discuss the detection, characterization, and significance of human leukocyte antigen (HLA) and non-HLA antibodies in kidney transplantation
Learning Pathway(s)
- Pathology
- Kidney Transplantation
