COVID-19 CDC Spotlight

Noteworthy Updates of Interest to Dialysis Professionals:

  • The COVID-19 pandemic is a formidable global public health challenge. The spread of SARS-CoV-2 has been unrelenting, impacting nearly every aspect of society worldwide. The pandemic has required a substantial response by public health authorities at all levels. The CDC Public Health Science Agenda for COVID-19 builds on CDC's ongoing pandemic-related work. Importantly, the COVID-19 pandemic has underscored long-standing health disparities and inequities in the United States.
  • The CDC has updated its infection prevention and control (IPC) guidance for healthcare settings, Infection Control Guidance for Healthcare Professionals about Coronavirus (COVID-19). In general, these updates do not reflect substantial changes to recommended practices, rather they have been made to further clarify, consolidate, and simplify existing healthcare IPC guidance.
  • As a part of this update, the dialysis guidance has been streamlined and combined into the main IPC guidance for healthcare settings. This was done to make it easier for healthcare personnel to find relevant guidance for the duration of the COVID-19 response. This updated guidance will now be the main source of information for dialysis facilities. The previous dialysis guidance will be archived and remain available on the CDC website for historical reference.
