COVID-19 Vaccination Imperatives in People on Maintenance Dialysis

Posted: October 15, 2021

A perspective in CJASN examines data from recent studies on COVID-19 vaccination in individuals on maintenance dialysis. Findings reveal that vaccination done correctly can work in a large majority of people on dialysis, and two doses work much better than one, both in the frequency and in the intensity of the serologic response. In the subgroup of patients on hemodialysis with prior infection, one vaccine may be serologically as good as two doses in those not previously infected, at least in the short term, although two are still recommended.
